note to self #4
How I care, what I care about, what I care for are the indicators that reveal my character. It is not by one's faults, perceived sins or imagined motivations that you know someone but by what that person celebrates. Each of us, at one point or another, makes a kind of fetish out of what we consider to be our failures, our losses, our inadequacies. As a direct result, we rarely come to know what gives ourselves, and others, joy - what we love, what and how we celebrate and how we imagine those things.
Yet, in the end what makes us worth knowing are our passions and our commitment to what we love. Recognizing and appreciating those things in others not only shows our love, but our ability towards open-mindedness. And that open-mindedness is the greatest gift you can give someone that you like.
